'Gammon Lampinen Family Tree'

First of all, let me apologize for the poor photographs. My big camera is away on service and I have had to resort to a little 'snap-shot' one.

Title: 'Gammon Lampinen Family Tree'
Size: 60 x 90cm   Date: June 2011

This painting was commissioned by a lovely Finnish girl as a gift to her Finnish-Australian nephews in Sydney. The brief was to create a 'family tree' in the midst of a landscape that included iconic references to both countries.

When I think of Scandinavia - of which Finland is part - I see images of forest animals, birch trees, red cottages and an abundance of birds. Look closely at the painting and you can also see typical 'Sami drawings' (Sami people = Scandinavia's indigenous folk) of a reindeer on the chimney of the cottage.

Australia is the home of some truly unique & iconic animals - the kangaroo (this one wearing 'Ugg boots'..!), and the yellow ridged Cockatoo, to name a couple.
I also wanted the painting to hold reference to the Aboriginal culture - there is a boomerang perched on a Gum tree branch, some indigenous carvings on the chimney of the 'Queenslander style' cottage, and also a circle of 'Aboriginal style' stars around the sun.

Hi charlotta! thank you so much for your comment and don't you worry about not replying to my email. Life gets so hectic with our families, work and obligations. To be honest, it's amazing we have any time to do anything else, like blogging and emailing. I'm glad you're well and I hope you're enjoying the winter weather you're having? It's summer here.

I am working on so many things that sometimes I think I'm way over my head. I'm working on making jewellery and my art and it's so hard to organize my days...My art has a long way to go. I was hoping to start showing things sooner. I do think I am getting better. Practising is important. Any advice you have would be immensely appreciated. I'm working with acrylic mainly and ink drawings. One thing for sure is that I have to get over my insecurities.

p.s. I'm so glad that you posted more of your art work and I like the fresh header with the new colour and font!

Thanks for the encouragement! A big hug to you! xo Reese
